Davao del Norte Implements 18 Projects under DA-PRDP

The Province of Davao del Norte has 14 subprojects amounting to P1.118 billion for IBUILD or Infrastructure Component, and four (4) subproject worth P43.72 million under IREAP or Enterprise Component  of the Department of Agriculture- Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP).

Part of the said amount is allotted to eight (8) farm-to-market roads with a total length of 71.32 kilometers worth P876.76 million and one (1) FMR with bridge worth P205.20 million. Aside from road projects, they also have two (2) potable water supply subprojects worth P10.43 million, and three (3) other infrastructure subprojects worth P25.59 million.

The municipalities that implement these subprojects are Municipality of Asuncion with two (2) FMRs; San Isidro with two (2) FMRs; Kapalong with one (1) FMR and one (1) other infrastructure; Santo Tomas with two (2) FMRs and one (1) other infrastructure; New Corella with one (1) FMR with bridge and one (1) other infrastructure; and Panabo City with one (1) FMR and two (2) potable water supply projects.

These infrastructure subprojects are in support to the existing commodities of the each municipalities and the province as a whole. The roads will link the farms to the markets where they can sell their products directly to the buyers and will eliminate the presence of middlemen. It will also reduce the post-harvest losses because they can deliver faster their products to the market with less damage. While other infrastructure form part of the enterprise component particularly on post-harvest facilities like solar dryers and warehouses.

The Province also implements four (4) enterprise subprojects where two (2) SPs are located in Kapalong which is the Cacao Production and Beans Marketing, and Banana Cardava Consolidation and Marketing Enterprise amounting to P24.57 million and will benefit 12 proponent groups or 3,262 individual beneficiaries.

Samal City has two (2) enterprise subprojects which include Mango Marketing and Processing, and Seaweeds for Humanity Enterprise worth P 19.15 million. These two subprojects are still under business plan preparation. (Joy M. Montecalvo)
