DA-PRDP Slaughterhouse eyed in Misamis Oriental

Cagayan de Oro City |  An orientation on the guidelines for slaughterhouse establishment was conducted with the provincial government of Misamis Oriental by the Department of Agriculture-Philippine Rural Development Project 10 (PRDP-10) in collaboration with the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) last October 22, 2020 at Cagayan de Oro City.

The orientation was conducted to help the PLGU to identify the important documents required in availing the said project that will level off to the standards set by DA-PRDP and the NMIS.

Misamis Oriental Provincial Project Management and Implementing Unit (PPMIU) Head Stanley B. Uriarte said that the province has submitted a project concept to DA-PRDP to avail of a Triple-A slaughterhouse project at an estimated cost of Php 250 million. This will be established either in the municipality of Tagoloan or Laguindingan depending on the feasibility of the project in the area.

He further revealed that aside from Tagoloan and Laguindingan, other interested municipalities who wanted to avail the project include the municipality of Salay and the City of Gingoog.

Monitoring and Evaluation Unit Head Lana May S. Racines,  emphasized in a separate interview that project proposals from the municipalities in Bukidnon and Lanao del Norte were also received and are subject for review and validation right after the COVID-19 travel related restrictions from the local government units are lifted.

Under the Integrated Livestock and Corn Resiliency Project, slaughter houses are considered priorities under the Additional Financing 2 (AF2) of DA-PRDP in support to the Response, Mitigation, and Transition to the New Normal Phase of the government’s action against COVID 19 in order to produce more food and make it accessible and affordable for the nation in this time of the pandemic.  (Cyrus Seraspe | InfoACE10)
