CALABARZON provinces endorse AF II

Date Published: January 5, 2021

All five provincial development councils (PDC) in CALABARZON region has either endorsed or certified for endorsement the second additional financing of the Philippine Rural Development Project before 2020 ends.

These resolutions enjoin the CALABARZON Regional Development Council (RDC) to also endorse the USD 280 million with an 18.3 million Euro co-financing grant for PRDP to be implemented from 2021 to 2024. The World Bank loan will be used for the whole country while the European Union co-financing will focus on Mindanao.

“Endorsement at the provincial level is a prerequisite before the RDC also endorses the additional financing. With all five provinces showing support, we can say that the PRDP has been shown as good partner in rural development,” I-PLAN Component Head Crystal Jade Padonan said. The I-PLAN component was tasked to gather all endorsement from the provinces.

Four of the five provinces have conducted their PDCs during 4th Quarter 2020 starting with Batangas on October 7, Cavite on November 10, Quezon on November 25, and Laguna on December 7. Meanwhile, the province of Rizal has forwarded a certification of their favorable endorsement; the actual PDC meeting is still being scheduled.

The PRDP AF II is retrofitted to support the Department of Agriculture’s aim in helping speeding-up the recovery of the agri-fishery sector brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the most recent World Bank Implementation Support Mission, the PRDP has performed well and received satisfactory performance from the Bank. # (Lawrence Albert Bariring, DA-PRDP CALABARZON RPCO InfoACE Unit)
