DA-PRDP 10 Hands in 2 FMRS in MisOC

Date Published: December 22, 2020

Christmas will be merrier for the farmers and residents of Clarin, Misamis Occidental and Tubod, Lanao Del Norte as the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Project 10 (DA-PRDP 10) hand in two Farm to Market Roads (FMR) to the said municipalities.

The 4.24 KM Guba-Bernad/Guba Bitoon FMR in Clarin, worth Php 99,670,355.37, was turned over on December 18, 2020 while the three barangays in Tubod now enjoy better travels as the 6.50 KM Taguranao – Palao – Dalama FMR, worth Php 55,432,444.73, was officially turned over on December 21,2020.
During the turnover ceremony, Carmelito Hiray, Information Officer of Clarin and representative of Mayor Glory Fe D. Roa, said in his message that the new road will open opportunities for the people of Guba, Bernad, and Bitoon. “This is just the beginning, we will attract investors to open our economic activities that will bring development in the benefiting barangays as the road is now accessible… More than just farming activities, we will also open doors for our tourism especially in Bitoon because it is rich in tourist spots” Hiray said.
Eugene Pata, Barangay Captain of Bernad, is thankful to the DA-PRDP and LGU for the new road. He said “We are greatly thankful for the road because it has helped us in delivering our products and it won’t get damaged anymore. Our travels are also comfortable now. This has been the dream of our ancestors, and also our dream. We will always take care of this road so the next generation can still benefit from it.”
It is also noteworthy to mention that the Guba-Bernad/Guba-Bitoon FMR is the only IBUILD subproject turned-over in Northern Mindanao that involves two bridges.
In a separate event, Tubod Mayor Leoncio Bagol said in his message that even before the turnover of FMR, it has already provided them the ease of transport. “The ceremony is done to formally hand in the FMR but the road has already been beneficial especially for our farmers in transporting their produce to the market even before it was turned over. It already provided us better transport even during the construction stage. Now that it is finally turned over, this is such a huge subproject made possible through effective cooperation of DA-PRDP together with the LGUs of barangays, the municipality, and the province.”

On the other hand, Regional Executive Director of DA-10 and Project Director of DA-PRDP 10 Carlene C. Collado, CPA congratulated both municipalities for completing their respective FMRs in accordance to the guidelines and specifications set by the World Bank. He said “It is never easy for a PRDP subproject to be completed because the process is known to be very tedious. Finally, we are turning over your FMR. I am asking the officials and residents of the barangays benefiting from the said road to help in maintaining and protecting your road from heavy duty vehicles. It is one of the reasons why the road won’t last long. This is an FMR, thus, we have to prioritize the farmers in using the road. As I have said, it is not easy to complete PRDP subproject, now that the road is turned over under your care, we expect you to do your part in making it last longer. #
